Los Angeles Care Homes, Named From the State File

The state licensing file dated May 25, 2025 listed 143 residential care facilities for the elderly under the city name Los Angeles. That is the file's own city field rather than the whole City of Los Angeles, so Van Nuys, Northridge and the other neighborhoods the state files under their own names are counted on their own pages. Every one of the 143 is named below, with the capacity the state licensed it for and the license number that opens its own record. A local advisor will help you read it, at no cost to your family.

A residential street in Los Angeles where licensed care homes sit among ordinary houses

The short answer

In the file dated May 25, 2025, 143 records carried the city name Los Angeles in the state's own city field, which is narrower than the City of Los Angeles and leaves out the neighborhoods filed under their own names: 99 licensed for six residents or fewer, 4 in the seven to twenty four range, and 40 for twenty five or more. Those 40 larger buildings hold 5,047 of the 5,651 licensed beds in these records, so the beds sit in the buildings while most of the licenses sit in houses. Market rates, which the file does not record, generally run about $3,500 to $6,000 a month for a house and about $4,500 to $8,000 for a larger community. Our help is free to your family.

This page is the register. It says what the state had on record and nothing about which entry is any good. If you want the other half, how to read a license, what to watch on a tour, and what belongs in a monthly rate, our assisted living facilities guide is written for that.

Every record the state filed under the name Los Angeles

Los Angeles is not one care market, and the ZIP column is the fastest way to see it. The file put 16 in 90046 across the Fairfax district and the Hollywood Hills, 10 in 90034 in Palms, 9 in 90035 through Pico-Robertson and South Carthay, and 9 in 90048 on the Beverly Grove side.

South and west of downtown there is a second group of records that families almost never find on their own: 7 in 90018 across Jefferson Park and West Adams, 7 in 90047 in Hyde Park, 7 in 90056 across Ladera Heights and Baldwin Hills, and 7 in 90064 through Rancho Park and West Los Angeles. Senior living prices in Los Angeles broadly track local property costs, so addresses in this group generally run below Westside ones for the same level of care. That is market context rather than a file claim, because the state record holds no prices.

Read the six bed homes as their own map rather than as a slice of the one above, because they do not sit in the same places. Counting only the records licensed for six residents or fewer, the file put 9 in 90034 in Palms, 9 in 90046 in the Fairfax district, 7 in 90047 in Hyde Park, and 7 in 90056 in Ladera Heights.

Every home listed here comes from the State of California's public licensing file. A listing is a public record, not a recommendation, an endorsement, or a sign that we have any relationship with the home or have inspected it ourselves.

State records change. A license can lapse, change hands, or be suspended after the file was published, so check the current record on the state's own site before you rely on anything here.

The state's most recently published file is dated May 25, 2025, which is more than a year ago. That is the newest data the state has released, so read everything below as a starting point for your own calls rather than as a current picture.

Our guidance is free to families. We are paid a referral fee by a community when a family we introduced moves in. If you would rather talk it through than read a table, call (323) 675-2991.

Street addresses are shown for the larger communities only. Most of the homes in this file across Los Angeles County are six bed homes in ordinary houses, so for those the table gives the city and ZIP code and links you to the state's own record, where the State publishes the full address itself.

The license number is the field to take to the state. Following it opens that home's current record on the California Department of Social Services site, which is the live version of everything in this table.

Homes just outside Los Angeles

Most families widen the search by a few minutes of driving once they see what it opens up. These are the neighboring cities in the same state file, each with the number of homes the state listed as licensed there in the file dated May 25, 2025.

  • Torrance, 90 homes the state listed as licensed. South, and a register worth reading beside this one if the family visiting lives in the South Bay.
  • Van Nuys, 51 homes the state listed as licensed. Over the hill in the San Fernando Valley, where local property costs, and with them senior living prices, generally sit below the Westside. Prices are market context rather than a file claim.
  • Long Beach, 50 homes the state listed as licensed. Southeast, with a register of its own on this site and a major VA campus.
  • Santa Monica, 15 homes the state listed as licensed. West on the coast, where property costs and senior living prices both run high, so usually worth a look only if the family visiting lives there. Prices are market context rather than a file claim.
  • Culver City, 7 homes the state listed as licensed. Between the Westside and the airport, and easy to reach from most of the city.

What care costs in Los Angeles

Board and care home, six residents or fewer
about $3,500 to $6,000 a monthUsually one all in monthly rate covering room, meals, and personal care. Where a home lands inside the band is driven mostly by room type and by the local property market, so a shared room generally costs less than a private one, and a Westside address generally costs more than a South or East Los Angeles one.
Larger assisted living community
about $4,500 to $8,000 a monthNormally base rent plus a care level fee set by an assessment. Ask what the fee is today, what moves it to the next tier, and how much notice you get before it changes.
Secured memory care
generally adds $1,000 to $2,000 a monthOn top of either setting. The premium pays for a secured perimeter, higher staffing, and dementia trained caregivers rather than for amenities.

These are typical market ranges in Los Angeles, not prices we set and not quotes. No figure here is attached to any home in the table above, and no home should give you a number before it has assessed the person who would be moving in.

Houses and buildings, counted separately

Of the 143 records, 99 were licensed for six residents or fewer. In California those carry exactly the same residential care facility for the elderly license as a building licensed for hundreds. They are ordinary houses on ordinary streets, usually with a live in operator and a small caregiving staff.

The bed arithmetic runs the other way, and the file makes that plain. The 40 records licensed for twenty five or more hold 5,047 of the 5,651 licensed beds, while the six bed homes hold 538 between them. That is 89 percent of the beds in these records inside a large building, against 81 percent countywide. The median record in the file for this city was licensed for 6 residents, and the biggest for 299.

Small homes also have no marketing. Most have no website, no sign, and no listing anywhere a search engine reaches. That is a business model rather than a warning sign. A six bed home fills by word of mouth and by placement agencies and has no reason to rank for anything, which is why a family searching alone finds a handful of large communities and concludes that is the whole market.

  • Same state license, very different daily life. Ask about the ratio of residents to caregivers at two in the morning, not at two in the afternoon.
  • Small homes usually quote one all in monthly rate. Large communities usually quote base rent plus a care level fee set by an assessment, and that fee is the most common source of a surprise six months in.
  • Language and food are far easier to match in a small home, because a household cooks rather than a kitchen.
  • A secured memory care setting is normally a larger community, though some six bed homes hold a dementia care waiver. Ask about that specifically rather than assuming either way.

Why your neighborhood may not have a page of its own

Community Care Licensing records a facility under whatever city the address carries, and for most of Los Angeles that city is simply Los Angeles. Hollywood, Palms, Mar Vista, Westchester, West Adams, Eagle Rock, and Silver Lake all sit inside the 143 records on this page rather than in registers of their own.

A handful of areas the state does file separately, which is why Van Nuys, Northridge, Granada Hills, and San Pedro have registers of their own. Across the county the file spreads its licensed records over 119 city names in all, and the name Los Angeles is first of those 119 by the number of records, ahead of Torrance with 90.

The practical version of all this: use the ZIP column, not the city column. A daughter in Culver City and a father whose file entry says Los Angeles may be four minutes apart, and the register will not tell you that unless you read the ZIP.

Hospital discharge, and the map that actually matters

Most Los Angeles placements start with a discharge planner rather than with a search. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Grove, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, Keck Hospital of USC and LAC+USC Medical Center in Boyle Heights, Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center on Sunset, and CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center between them account for a large share of the calls we take inside the city.

The thing worth knowing early is that the right home is usually near whoever will visit most, not near the hospital and not near the current house. A home twenty minutes from a daughter in Culver City gets visited three times a week. A home twenty minutes from an empty house in Sylmar gets visited on Sundays, then monthly. We normally redraw the map around the visitor before looking at a single address.

The second thing is timing. A discharge date creates urgency, and it also creates a window, and the window is the good part. It is far easier to choose well while a parent is stable in a hospital bed than on a Friday afternoon with that bed being cleared.

What the file records, and what it cannot

The oldest first license date among the records filed under this name is December 1976, and the most recent is May 2025. 53 of the 143 carry a first license date of May 2020 or later. A license belongs to the operator rather than to the building, so a recent date says the operator is recent, not that the house was built last year.

Licensed capacity is a ceiling the state set. It is not an occupancy figure and it says nothing about whether a bed is free this month. Nor does the file say who is awake overnight, which home takes a two person transfer, which one accepts hospice on site, or which caregiver speaks the language your mother will fall back on when her English goes.

That is the part we do, in person, and it costs your family nothing. We are a placement and referral agency rather than a care provider. We do not own, operate, manage, or inspect any facility on this page. A community pays us a referral fee when a family we introduced moves in, which is how the service stays free to you, and you are free to contact any home on this list directly without us.

Questions families ask us

How many assisted living facilities are there in the city of Los Angeles?
The California Department of Social Services file dated May 25, 2025 listed 143 residential care facilities for the elderly under the city name Los Angeles, out of 1,648 across Los Angeles County. Read that as the file's own city field rather than as the whole City of Los Angeles, because the neighborhoods the file records under a name of their own, Van Nuys, Northridge, Chatsworth and the rest, are counted under those names instead. Of the 143, 99 were licensed for six residents or fewer, 4 in the seven to twenty four range, and 40 for twenty five or more. All 143 are named on this page. That describes the file on its date and nothing after it, so check the state record before relying on any entry.
Why is my neighborhood not listed on a page of its own?
Because Community Care Licensing files most Los Angeles neighborhoods under the city name. A home in Hollywood, Palms, Mar Vista, Westchester, West Adams, Eagle Rock, Silver Lake, or Rancho Park carries a facility city of Los Angeles in the state record, so it is on this page rather than on a page of its own. The ZIP code in each row is the quickest way to place a home on the map. Areas the file gives their own city value, such as Van Nuys, Northridge, Granada Hills, and San Pedro, do get separate pages.
Why is the six bed share lower here than across the county?
Because of where the beds are, not because the houses are missing. In the file, 99 of the 143 records filed under the name Los Angeles were licensed for six residents or fewer, which is 69 percent, against 83 percent across Los Angeles County. The same set carried 40 records licensed for twenty five or more, and those hold 5,047 of the 5,651 licensed beds on this page. So the city name carries a wide choice of large communities and 99 small homes sitting quietly underneath them.
How much does assisted living in Los Angeles cost?
A licensed six bed board and care home commonly runs about $3,500 to $6,000 a month, and a larger community about $4,500 to $8,000 a month, with a secured memory care setting generally adding $1,000 to $2,000. Senior living prices in Los Angeles broadly track local property costs, so Westside addresses generally run above South and East Los Angeles ones for the same level of care. That is general market context and not something the state file records, because the licensing file carries no price data at all. The ranges above are typical Los Angeles market ranges shaped by care level and room type. They are not prices we set or quote, and no figure here is attached to any home in the table.
How do I check a license myself?
Follow the license number in the last column of any row. It opens that facility's own record on the Department of Social Services care facility search, where the current license status, the licensed capacity, inspection reports, and any citations are published. Do it before you tour and again before you sign anything. The table here is a copy of a state file with a date on it. The state's own page is the live record.
Are you one of the facilities on this list?
No. Senior Placement Agency LA is a free placement and referral service for families. We do not own, operate, manage, or inspect any home on this page, and a listing here is a public record rather than a recommendation, an endorsement, or a sign of any relationship. You are welcome to contact any of these homes directly, without us.
How is this page different from your assisted living facilities page?
This page is the register. It names what the state recorded, with licensed capacity and a license number for each entry. Our assisted living facilities page is the guide: what an RCFE license actually covers, what to look at on a tour, what is bundled into a monthly rate, and how to narrow a short list down. Most families end up wanting both, usually the register first and the guide second.
My father is being discharged this week. Is that too fast?
No. That is the ordinary timeline and it is the one we work in most. Discharges inside the city reach us from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Grove, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, Keck Hospital of USC and LAC+USC Medical Center in Boyle Heights, Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center on Sunset, and CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. Tell us how your father transfers, whether there is confusion or wandering, what medications are involved, and the monthly budget, and we can usually have a short list the same day and tours within two or three.
