Two Glendales in one file
The 9 larger communities held 1,299 of the 1,423 licensed beds the file recorded in the city, set down in the data as 91 percent. Between them the 21 six bed houses came to 124. Read the city by beds and it is almost entirely an apartment style market.
Read it by licenses instead and it inverts: 70 percent of the 30 licensed homes in Glendale were those six bed houses, and the median capacity across every Glendale record was 6. The largest capacity on any single Glendale license was 199 beds. Both readings are true. They just answer different questions.
By the plain count of licensed homes, Glendale sat sixteenth of the 119 Los Angeles County cities with at least one, a position 2 cities held jointly. It is a place in a long list and nothing more, and it says nothing at all about whether any of these homes is the right one for your mother.
The houses are spread, not clustered
It is common for a city's six bed homes to bunch into a ZIP code or two, so a family can drive the neighborhood in an afternoon. Glendale does not work that way. The houses reach from the Burbank line in the northwest up into the hills above Kenneth Road and out to the La Crescenta and Montrose end, and there is no single street to walk.
- The 21 six bed houses by ZIP code: 6 in 91201, 4 in 91205, 3 in 91207, 2 in 91202, 2 in 91203, 2 in 91206, 1 in 91208 and 1 in 91214.
- All 30 licensed homes together, a different population with a different total, ran across 9 ZIP codes, with the largest single concentration at 10 in 91205.
- Keep those two lists apart. A count of all licensed homes in a ZIP code is not a count of the six bed houses in it, and mixing the two is the easiest way to talk yourself into driving to the wrong part of town.
- The practical consequence is that touring here means planning a route rather than walking a block, and that the home worth seeing may be right across the city from the one you started with.
The question the licensing file cannot answer
Glendale has a large and long established Armenian American community, and for many families here the practical question is not only what a home costs but what language is spoken in its kitchen. The state file cannot help. It records a license number, a name, a capacity, a ZIP code and a date, and nothing about who works there.
That is a question worth asking every home you call, directly, and worth asking again about the night shift. A home where the day staff speak your mother's language and the night staff do not is a different place at three in the morning, and three in the morning is when a frightened resident falls back on the language she grew up with.
We keep track of which homes in this area can genuinely offer it, in Armenian and in Spanish, Korean, Tagalog and Farsi as well. When we do not know, we say so rather than guess, and we will help you ask the question properly.
If you searched Glendale and got Arizona
You were not imagining it. There is another Glendale, in Arizona, of a comparable size, and an unqualified search splits between the two. That is why this page carries the California qualifier in its title and its heading.
Do the same thing yourself. Add CA, or add a street or a neighborhood name, and the results change completely. Montrose, Adams Hill, Verdugo Woodlands, Chevy Chase Canyon and Kenneth Road all work, and any of them will pull a search back to the right state in one word.
It may also account for something families notice and cannot explain, which is that Glendale results can feel thinner and less local than results for Burbank or Pasadena, neither of which has a namesake city pulling on it. The supply is here. The search terms were splitting it.
Discharge planning, and how far the search reaches
Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center on South Central Avenue, Adventist Health Glendale on Wilson Terrace and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital on Verdugo Boulevard are the general hospitals in and immediately around the city, and a hospital discharge is one of the most common moments a family starts looking at all. Call us while the discharge date is still ahead of you rather than behind it. That window is short, and it is the only part of this you get to use well.
On geography, the state's own tight grouping is thin here. The 912 ZIP code area is where the file recorded 32 licensed homes across 2 places in total. The only other one in it was La Crescenta with 2. That is the whole of the immediate ZIP area, and it is not much of a fallback on its own.
The wider grouping in the licensing data is the area covered by CDSS regional office 31, where the file recorded 626 licensed homes across 42 places, led by Northridge at 74, Granada Hills at 62 and Lancaster at 59, 195 between them. Much of that is deep in the San Fernando Valley or out in the Antelope Valley, so treat it as the outer edge of what is possible rather than a shortlist.
In practice a Glendale search widens west into Burbank, north into Montrose, La Crescenta and Tujunga, east into Pasadena, and northwest to La Canada Flintridge. Those are the drives a family here will actually make on a Sunday, and who is willing to make them is the question to settle first. The figures above are context for it.

Questions families ask us
- How many assisted living facilities are there in Glendale, California?
- The state file dated May 25, 2025 listed 30 residential care facilities for the elderly as licensed in Glendale, California: 21 licensed for six residents or fewer and 9 for 25 or more. Every one is named in the table on this page, with licensed capacity and license number.
- Why does Glendale feel like a big community town?
- Because on beds it is one. The 9 larger communities held 1,299 of the 1,423 licensed beds the file recorded in the city, which the data sets down as 91 percent. Between them the 21 six bed houses accounted for 124. On a count of licenses the picture inverts, because 70 percent of the licensed homes were those small houses.
- Where are the six bed board and care homes in Glendale?
- Spread out rather than clustered. Across the 21 houses the file listed 6 in 91201, 4 in 91205 and 3 in 91207. That is 13 of them in those 3 ZIP codes. The other 8 are spread thinly across 5 more, reaching from the Burbank line in the northwest to the La Crescenta end. There is no single neighborhood to drive.
- I searched and kept getting Glendale, Arizona. What am I doing wrong?
- Nothing. There is another Glendale, in Arizona, of a comparable size, and an unqualified search splits between the two. Add CA, or add a street or a neighborhood name such as Montrose, Adams Hill or Verdugo Woodlands, and the results change completely. It is the single easiest fix in this whole search and almost nobody makes it.
- What does care in Glendale cost?
- A board and care home commonly runs about $3,500 to $6,000 a month as one all in rate, and a larger community about $4,500 to $8,000 a month as base rent plus a care level fee set by an assessment. These are typical Los Angeles market ranges rather than prices we set or quote, and no figure here belongs to any home in the table.
- Can the state file tell me which homes speak Armenian?
- No, and this is the question Glendale families ask most. The file records a license number, a name, a capacity, a ZIP code and a date. It says nothing about who works in a home or what language they speak, and nothing about the night shift, which is the shift that matters. Ask every home directly, and ask about nights specifically. We keep track of which homes in this area can genuinely offer it, and we will tell you when we do not know.
- How up to date is this?
- It describes one file, published on May 25, 2025. The oldest first license date in the Glendale records is from 1992 and the newest from 2025. Homes shut, change owner and have their licensed capacity revised, so check the current status of any home with the California Department of Social Services before relying on it.
- Are you connected to any of these communities?
- Senior Placement Agency LA is a free placement and referral service for families. We do not own, operate, manage or inspect any facility listed on this page, and a listing is a public record rather than a recommendation. You can contact any of them yourself.
