About Senior Placement Agency LA

We are a free senior placement and referral service for families across Los Angeles County. This page explains exactly what we do, how the process works, and how we are paid, so you can decide whether we are useful to you.

A senior living advisor talking a family through their options by phone

The short answer

We help Los Angeles families compare and choose senior living. Families pay us nothing. When a family we introduced moves in, the community pays us a referral fee out of its marketing budget, which is what makes the service free.

What a senior placement agency does

Los Angeles County has hundreds of licensed senior living options, from six-bed board and care homes on a residential street to large assisted living communities with their own dining rooms and nursing staff. Sorting them alone means hours of calls, websites that all sound alike, and prices that are rarely published.

A placement agency does that sorting for you. We learn the care needs, the monthly budget, and the areas that make sense for visiting family, then bring back a short list that actually fits. We are advisors and coordinators. We are not a medical provider, and we do not operate the communities we introduce you to.

How our service works, step by step

Nothing here is complicated, and you can stop at any point.

  • You tell us the situation. A short conversation about who needs care, what help they need day to day, the budget, and the timeline.
  • We narrow the field. We match your situation against the communities we know in your area and rule out the ones that cannot serve the care level or the budget.
  • We bring you a short list. Usually a handful of options, with what we know about each, including the parts that are less flattering.
  • We set up the tours. We schedule visits, tell you what to look for, and give you the questions that matter once you are inside the building.
  • You decide. If none of them are right, we go back and look again. There is no pressure to move on our timeline.
  • We stay through move-in. Paperwork, deposits, timing with a hospital or rehab discharge, and the coordination that tends to fall through the cracks.

How we are paid, stated plainly

Families pay us nothing. When a family we introduced moves into a community, that community pays us a referral fee. The fee comes from the community's marketing budget. It is not added to your monthly rate, and your rent is not higher because you came to us.

We say this early and in writing because you deserve to know where our money comes from before you share anything about your parent or your finances. It is also why we will tell you when a community is wrong for your family, even when a move there would pay us. A placement that falls apart in three months helps nobody.

If a community you are considering does not have a referral relationship with us, we will still talk it through with you. We would rather be useful than paid.

What we help families find

We work across the full range of senior living in Los Angeles County, which matters because families often start out asking for one thing and need another.

  • Assisted living, for help with bathing, dressing, meals, and medication reminders
  • Memory care, for dementia and Alzheimer's, in secure and calmer settings
  • Board and care homes, licensed in California as Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly
  • Independent living, for seniors who want less house to manage and more company
  • Skilled nursing referral, when the need is clinical and ongoing
  • Guidance on costs and how families pay, including VA benefits for veterans

What we do not do

Being clear about our limits is part of being useful.

  • We are not a medical provider and we do not give medical advice. Questions about conditions, medications, or prognosis belong with your loved one's doctor.
  • We do not perform care assessments. The community's own nurse does that before a move, and their assessment governs.
  • We do not own, operate, staff, or license the communities. They are independent businesses that set their own prices and their own availability.
  • We do not provide legal or financial advice, and we do not quote or guarantee a community's price.
  • We do not charge families, and we will not ask you for a credit card or a deposit. Deposits go to the community, never to us.

Who we serve

We work with families across Los Angeles County, including Los Angeles, Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, Santa Monica, Long Beach, Torrance, the San Fernando Valley, and the South Bay. We speak English and Spanish.

Most people who call us are adult children trying to help a parent, often in the middle of a work week, sometimes from another state. Some are spouses. Some are seniors making the decision for themselves. All of it is normal, and none of it needs to be figured out before you reach out.

Questions families ask us

What is a senior placement agency?
A senior placement agency helps a family find and choose a senior living community. We learn what your loved one needs, what the family can spend, and which neighborhoods work, then narrow the hundreds of licensed options across Los Angeles County down to a short list worth your time. We arrange the tours, tell you what to ask, and stay with you through move-in. The work is advisory and logistical, not medical.
How is your service free to families?
The community pays us a referral fee when a resident we introduced moves in. That fee comes out of the community's own marketing budget and is not added to your monthly rate, so your family is never billed and never pays more for having worked with us. We think you should know how we are paid before you tell us anything about your family.
Does the referral fee change which communities you recommend?
It should not, and we work hard to keep it that way. We will tell you when a community is a poor fit even if a move there would pay us, and we will tell you when the right answer is to stay home a while longer with in-home help. If a community you are considering does not work with us, we will still help you think it through.
Do you own or operate any of the communities?
No. We are independent of the communities we introduce you to. They are separately owned and licensed, they run their own care assessments, and they set their own prices. We do not control their staffing, their availability, or what they charge.
Are you medical professionals?
No. We are not a medical provider and we do not give medical advice, diagnoses, or care plans. Questions about medications, conditions, or whether a particular level of care is medically appropriate belong with your loved one's physician. The community's own nurse completes the formal care assessment before a move.
What does the process cost us in time?
Most families spend a first conversation of twenty minutes or so describing the situation, then tour two or three communities over the following week or two. A hospital or rehab discharge moves faster than that when it has to. We do the searching, the calling, and the scheduling in between, which is the part that usually eats a family's evenings.
